Story of the Day
Listening to the sounds made by various vehicles on your street can be fun.
If you live in a city you can guess what is going by but you don't really know
unless you've tied a visual in with the audio. Using a street viewing window is cheating.
Try to guess what a car looks like by it's sound. You may be right more often than
you would at first expect.
Some obvoius categories of vehicles include V-8 powered
Amurcun Ahrn. Especially if it has been hopped up. In some senses it is amazing that
you can still find some of that in this day of emissions inspection stations. Hey, one just
went by. Very often when you hear the throb of the big engine now it is in a truck
or truck derived four-wheeler.
Another group that is distinctive is the "boom" car. A boom-box on wheels. Of course
all you can hear in your home is the bass. But that goes right through the foundation.
Usually the car or small pickup is low to the ground and cheap to operate and usually
very small.
I am sure everybody can identify a garbage truck. Even in the Age of Recycling the sounds
that come from a garbage truck can't be mistaken.
