Story of the Day
A new month is here! It is hard to believe that January of 1996 is over. Some would say that it is just a sign of getting old when the years start going by fast. So what? I still think of 1996 as the impossibly distant future. Remember 1984 is supposed to be in the future and now that's twelve years ago. At least George's predictions haven't come true. No one's predictions for the future have come true. This age is more of the same as and yet stranger than the years that have gone before. Where are our jet packs? Our personal helicopters? Why aren't we commuting by plane? By now we should have automated highways where we can drive 200mph. Then there's that old favorite the car-plane convertible.
If you go back to the 50's predictions we should have atomic cars and home reactor plants producing electricity and heat. To say nothing of nuclear trains and aircraft. The space hotels should have been in place for 10 years. Of course they couldn't have imagined digital watches or calculators. The personal computer is another area where reality has outstripped imagination.
How about some interaction? What prediction hits or misses are significant to you? Anyone who wants, please send replies to the address below. Thank you for your support.
